Irene Vlachou

Irene Vlachou is a type designer based in Athens who holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, UK. She has collaborated with international type foundries and corporations, working as a type designer and a consultant for Greek typefaces. From 2013–19, she was a senior designer and variable font expert at TypeTogether, and currently works as a full-time freelance type designer specialising in OEM system fonts. On behalf of the Greek Open Source Community (GFOSS), Irene is a mentor on the expansion of Greek libre fonts for the Google Summer of Code (GSOC) programme. During Spring semester 2022, she worked as both an artist-in-residence at La Becque and as a visiting professor at the Master Type Design programme at ECAL, Lausanne. Since January 2023 she has participated in the ILoveTypography Academy with her online class “Intro to Greek Type Design”.
