Soleil Magic Caps

We are proud to present Wolfgang Homola’s Soleil Magic Caps, a display companion to Soleil, his award-winning tranquil and fresh geometric sans. This special set of capital letters was inspired by Escheresque and Penrose forms based on the idea of impossible geometry. Soleil Magic Caps is composed of one main style and two additional layer styles that can be handled separately to make the mind-bending deconstruction process more visible and attractive. Soleil Magic Caps is a rigorous and reader-centric design that stands out from the crowd and is a superb visual contrast to Soleil.

TypeTogether is happy to announce the recent publication of Soleil’s type specimen. The specimen was designed by Wolfgang Homola, the creator of Soleil. This beautifully printed leporello style fold-out features all the different styles of the geometric sans Soleil, including the Escheresque display weight Soleil Magic Caps. As we generally do with our catalogues, type specimens, and posters, this brochure is distributed for free when you pay only the €3.5 shipping fee.

TYPOMATCHING
Marco & Karmina Sans, the humanist combo

Choosing type that works well together requires balancing the needs of readability and visual interest; they have to read easily and feel good. So it is not uncommon that two typefaces created by different designers could produce a special synergy when used together.
This is exactly the case for our new typo-matching recommendation: Marco (by Toshi Omagari) and Karmina Sans (by Burian and Scaglione). They both share the same humanist feel and similar calligraphic foundation, but do not mimic each other. Their complementarity creates a small dose of tension that makes text more interesting, whether the serif is used in paragraphs and the sans in headings, or vice versa. Setting Marco with Karmina Sans automatically establishes hierarchy, emphasis, and clarity. And since both type families have a touch of informality, you'll be able to hold the interest of your readers for quite a while.

TYPE IN USE
Adelle PE, the versatile and authoritative typeface

Lithuanian designer Gytis Skudžinskas used the slab serif Adelle in Arturas Valiauga’s photographic art book The Land of Longing. The publication was inspired by the work of Kristijonas Donelaitis, fundamental in Lithuanian literature. The texts have been translated into four languages (Lithuanian, English, German, and Russian) and the multilingual typeface Adelle is a perfect fit.

Alverata, linking past and present

To celebrate the 400-year anniversary of the University Library of Groningen, the designer Nynke Tiekstra (ColtsfootMedia, Rotterdam) was commissioned to design the book The University Library of Groningen: Four Hundred Years of History in Four Buildings, Forty Collections and Infinite Pictures. Tiekstra chose Alverata, a typeface she was convinced, “Could link this 400 years in library history. Gerard Unger’s typeface Alverata did that job excellently.” Alverata is used throughout the book in headlines and continuous text.
