We are happy to present Skolar Web, a manually hinted version of the successful type family designed by David Březina. Manual hinting of a font dramatically improves its appearance on computer screens and allows for a superior performance in the web environment. The process fixes alignment problems, improves spacing and generates better consistency between lettershapes.

CUSTOM TYPE
Bree Perú

The Argentinean office of design studio FutureBrand requested a customization of our popular typeface Bree to be used with the new Perú brand. The friendly and joyful appearance of Bree fitted well into the new visual concept touching on the country’s rich and diverse culture. Our brief was to modify several glyphs to create a version of Bree that is unique to the Perú brand and that would provide further connection between the typeface and the new communication program. We based our adaptation on the new spiral-shaped logo and curly ornaments accompanying it. We designed several swash characters, some spiral shaped loops and included several OpenType contextual alternates which would add curly tails to a selection of letters.

EDUCATION
Upcoming workshop in Portland, OR

The PNCA (Pacific Northwest College of Art) and Portland Type Company invited us to give a week-long workshop this July in Portland, Oregon. The workshop is split in two parts; the first providing basic methodology and theoretical knowledge about typeface design techniques and best practices, and the second focusing more on advanced techniques for typeface design and post-production of font families.

TYPE IN USE
Masaryk University

As part of the redesign of the monthly student newspaper of the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, the design team chose three of our typefaces, Adelle, Skolar and LFT Etica. It is a strict and clear design using Adelle mainly in headline, Skolar as bodytext and LFT Etica in pull-out quotes. Due to personal preferences the client decided to adapt the letter a in Adelle and change the out-stroke to a serif similar as inc.

Camera+ on the iPhone

The US based developer team of taptaptap licensed Bree for their popular iPhone application Camera+. The app is simple to use and is packed with several useful features, which allow the user to control exposure and focus, try out various shooting modes, edit the picture with a variety of filters and effects and share their images in social media.
