NEW RELEASE
Capitolium 2

We added five more styles to the Capitolium 2 Family. The typeface, designed by Gerard Unger, was the central part of the project for a way finding and information system to guide pilgrims and tourists through Rome for the jubilee of the Roman Catholic Church in the year 2000. Compared to the previously released Capitolium News 2, it has a smaller x-height and higher contrast providing for a more elegant appearance.
The new Capitolium 2 styles also feature over 250 new glyphs, support for Northern and Central European languages, OpenType features, several sets of numerals and improved kerning.

Four hand type design

Issue number 3 of Diseña, a graphic design magazine published in Santiago de Chile, features Jose Scaglione's newest article, "Four hand type design". Diseña is published by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile under the direction of renowned designer and educator, Ma. Ximena Ulibarri. The magazine is beautifully designed and printed, with almost 200 pages covering a range of topics related to graphic design. In his article, Scaglione describes TypeTogether's collaborative design scheme and presents the concepts that served as basis for the new font: Abril.

FREE FONT
Birdy

Birdy was especially created during the Graphic Design Walk as part of the London Design Festival. The event was organised by the team of GraphicBirdWatching who invited TypeTogether to participate. Veronika was drawing live this new typeface, Birdy, conceived there and then. A projector allowed visitors to follow her drawing letters and gave opportunity to ask questions directly about the design process. Birdy is now available for free to download. The character set is limited to upper and lowercase and some basic punctuation. An extension is in progress. Keep in touch for updates.

EXHIBITIONS
Walker

We were very pleased to be invited by Ellen Lupton to take part in the exhibition Graphic Design: Now in Production. Adelle is presented in a wall installation featuring 25 typefaces from foundries and designers around the world.The show is currently exhibited in the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and will travel to the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York, next summer. Awards

This week was particularly happy. We were awarded in two international type competitions. Maiola, by Veronika Burian and Capitolium News 2, by Gerard Unger, were selected in the Letter.2, organised by AtypI; and Pollen, by Eduardo Berliner, received the ISTD Premier Award, organised by The International Society of Typographic Designers which specifically recognises typographic excellence across a broad range of design disciplines.
