Portada in Clarín newspaper

The Argentinian newspaper Clarín commissioned TypeTogether to update its masthead and create a titling typeface (Clarín Títulos). The typeface design was to be used in concert with Adelle and Adelle Sans, which were setting pull quotes, callouts, and some headings in the sports and entertainment sections of the paper. This project expanded into the creation of the Portada type family, which was based in part on the finalised masthead design. Portada proved so successful in print, the newspaper is now using it for all text — the text weights in paragraphs and the titling weights in headings and subheadings.

EDUCATION
Bangkok workshop

Last month Veronika held a type design workshop in Bangkok, Thailand as part of the BITS conference. All TypeTogether workshops have a great mix of short, in-depth lectures and hands-on learning, and this was no exception. Although the workshop was only two hours, it was enough to introduce Latin type design and give an overview of the basics, such as the interplay between black and white, spacing, counter-shapes, and optical adjustments. The students were asked to do sketching exercises, which then branched into experimentation.

Bely poster & Fino cards

The 2016 Modern Magazine conference has come to a close, but TypeTogether was able to create some jealousy-inducing ephemera: a gorgeous poster for Roxane Gataud’s Bely and a set of cards for Ermin Međedović’s brand new Fino family. Printed by PB Tisk in Prague under the supervision of Filip Blažek, the Bely poster is a two-sided, three-colour offset print over Munken Pure Smooth 120gsm paper (540 mm x 840 mm). For Fino, a few Woody Allen quotes were selected to adorn the stately set of three cards. We’re all out of the Fino cards but we printed extra Bely posters, which will be ready to order soon.

Free Portada icons
