GERARD UNGER SCHOLARSHIP SPECIAL ISSUE
Gerard Unger Scholarship 2021 recipient Nina Faulhaber

The annual Gerard Unger Scholarship (GUS) helps promising typeface design students develop their careers. TypeTogether’s aim is to enable exceptional projects started during a course of study to be finalised and published commercially as soon as possible after the end of the course. This year 46 submissions with nine different scripts flowed in from all over the world prior to the deadline. The TypeTogether team has selected the main scholarship winner and eight merit awards from among these promising typeface projects.

Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, the founders of TypeTogether, comment about this edition of the Scholarship: “Aeroplan is the bridge where contemporary and vintage design meet, and they do so beautifully. Nina’s typeface produces blocks of text that look even and pleasantly readable, so it is a real surprise to see how daring, even intrepid, the letter shapes are when you zoom in on them.”
