Announcing the new book by TypeTogether, Building ligatures: the power of type
On the occasion of TypeTogether’s 15th anniversary, we have published a book entitled Building ligatures: the power of type. In this book, TypeTogether’s cosmopolitan team of experts present a cross section of the knowledge, experience, and best practices in type design, typography, and graphic design.
About the book
You most likely know that in typography a ligature is a connection, an unbreakable bond between parts that results in something new, useful, and evocative. This is why we’ve chosen the title Building ligatures for our book.
Over the course of our fifteen years in existence, the TypeTogether type foundry has built precisely that — literal and figurative ligatures. Since the relationships we’ve built are the most important thing to us, we want you to know what to expect from the book marking our 15 year anniversary as makers of type.
The 248-page book presents a well-balanced mix of know-how texts written by TypeTogether’s core team and essays by over 50 contributors, each of whom are the most respected and influential design writers and experts in the typographic industry. Featured contributors include Fiona Ross, Catherine Dixon, Gerry Leonidas, Veronika Burian, and José Scaglione, among others. Building ligatures includes essays and insights exploring design related themes and history, micro and macro details, partnerships and process.
“Yes, definitely! We do need new typefaces,” said Veronika Burian. “Fonts probably don’t save lives on their own, but they can help improve communication between people and cultures. We are contributing our small part for clarity, progress, and to bring separate groups together.”
