Obtaining “Liberties” with Garalda
Washington, DC-based quarterly journal Liberties is designed by William van Roden around educating the general public on the history, current trends, and the possibilities of culture and politics. Van Roden chose Xavier Dupre’s Garalda family as its identity and design voice across the website, social media, and printed publication.
Garalda is a charming family that renews a legacy of finesse. Its workaday personality encourages easy long-form reading, but this reinvented Garamond is certainly not basic. “For us, Garalda works hard, reads well, and looks elegant,” says van Roden. With its comfortable text appearance, swash alternates, and striking details when enlarged, he continues, “Garalda offered a much more vibrant alternative to the familiar Garamond.”
